For a service-based
business, many of the operational issues related to your business
were probably covered in the part of the strategic planning stage
of the business. The five questions for operations in a product-based
business can be adjusted and applied to a service-based business
as well.
Who will be
involved in your business and where you will be located are especially
important because you are going to have to meet with your clients
in order to provide your service, unless you are a web-based business.
If you have people working for you, you want to ensure that they
are properly trained to provide a consistent level of service and
represent your company well.
Also, your service
will probably involve different pieces of equipment and machinery,
and you need to know exactly what these requirements will be. For
a web-based business, this would include bandwidth requirements/what
type of server to use, the development or purchase of any applications
used in your business, office requirements, and so on. Seasonal
demand will determine when to have more people working for your
company, and what type of employee structure you should use (contract,
part-time, etc).
